"For much of the twentieth century, the fishing rights on the river were held by two lumber companies, St. Lawrence Paper Mills and Domtar. When Domtar’s lease ended in 1976, sport fishing on the river was opened to all Quebec anglers. Since that time, the river has been managed by a local organization, the Société d’aménagement de Baie-Trinité. It was designated a controlled harvesting zone (ZEC) for salmon fishing in 1987. The salmon of the Trinité have access to a fishway, and they have been the subject of ongoing scientific research since 1982."

TRIP SUMMARY:

The Trinitie River, Baie-Trinité, Québec, Canada is typical of rivers on the Côte-Nord, with an upstream portion that flows slowly through shallow pools among scattered boulders and a steeper downstream portion that has a considerably higher flow rate. The Rivière Trinité has several rapids and deeper pools. There are a total of 67 pools under 30 metres long, distributed in two sectors – one limited-access sector and one open-access. Only wade fishing is allowed.

SEASON: Season begins June 1 and runs through to the end of September.

TRIP INCLUDES: Daily River Permits, Accommodations, Meals, QC Salmon C&R Fly Fishing License, Airport Shuttle from Baie-Comeau on the north shore of the Gulf of St. Lawrence, and Guided Fly Fishing for both Atlantic Salmon and Brook Trout.

LODGING: Accommodations are in a drive to riverside cabin on the banks of the St. Lawrence Rivier. Private bedrooms for each angler just off the dining area and kitchen where all meals are prepared and served.

FOOD AND BEVERAGES: Breakfast, lunch and diner are all included. Beginning with a hot and healthy breakfast that will carry you right through to lunch served back at the cabin. At the end the day sit down to a rewarding full course meal that will range from grade A steaks, fresh lobsters to mouth watering 100% angus beef burgers. Refreshments of alcoholic beverages of wine or beer can be picked up in town just a sort drive away.

Trinité River Gallery

• Bring along a couple fly rods from 5-8 weights.

• A quality reel with a smooth drag system is a must as is several hundred yards of 30 lb backing and floating lines.

• Leaders and tippets range from 9' to 15' with a breaking strength of 3x to 1x.

• Good quality waders with felt or rubber soles (studs allowed).

• A rain proof wading jacket, multiple layers for cold and windy days add to the anglers comfort and make for enjoyable long days on the water and protection against the elements.

• Biting bugs in the early part of the season can be a problem so pack some insect repellent.

• A fly vest is good substitute to a wading jacket on warm summer days.

• Personal gear is up to you but you'll need a sleeping bag good to minus 5 degrees Celsius.
