TROPHY MOOSE AND WOODLAND CARIBOU

Bob Efford, owner/operator, brings along twelve years experience in the industry which includes three years of guiding and nine years of commercial bush flying experience. Success rates with Bob Efford for moose the last 3 years was 90%.

Moose were introduced to the province of Newfoundland in 1906, and because of the excellent forage have increased their numbers to 120,000. Many areas of the province boast the highest moose densities in the world.

The fly-out site of Rainy Lake (an out-camp from Sam's pond Lodge) provides some of the best moose hunting country in Newfoundland with a high density of moose in this particular location.

There are many vantage points around Harold's Pond Sam's Pond that are used to spot moose for an exciting "spot and Stalk". It is common to see 4-6 moose in a hunting day at Harold's Pond or Sam's Pond with a very high number of respectable.

Our lodges are approximately 800 square feet in size and very clean and comfortable. They are of log construction with three double occupancy private bedrooms; hot and cold running water with showers and indoor plumbing. Lighting is provided by generated power and refrigerator and cooking range is propane. The lodges are heated with 12 hour burner wood stoves.

Our fly-in remote site for Moose will be a tent campsite consisting of 2 tents of 12' x 16' in size. There will be wooden floors and 4' walls for the tent foundations. This site will be warm, clean and comfortable and will offer a true hunting experience for hunters that don't mind ' roughing it' a little.

A full time cook is on staff at each location to provide home cooked meals and shore lunches during the day. The menu will consist of turkey, beef, duck, steak, fish, etc. Any suggestions are welcome to the menu. Sam's pond Lodge is 1,200 square feet with five bedrooms and can accommodate six hunters.

Guests flying into Gander or St. John's will normally have to fly in on Saturday evening, thus, requiring hotel reservations for Saturday night. Guests flying into Deer Lake will need to fly in Thursday evening, thus requiring hotel reservations for Thursday night. Assistance in making reservations can be provided to you upon request.

Get the most out of your trip... In addition to moose hunting, you can hunt woodland caribou, black bear and ptarmigan.

Trophy preparation
All animals will be boned in the field, packed back at camp and hung in our meat houses. On Wednesday, or earlier if warm temperatures, meat will be flown to base. For driving guests, meat is usually chilled. For flying guests, the meat will be packaged in waxed insulated cartons and chilled for the airlines. Note: Butchering of meat is an additional cost if this is required; approximately $0.25/lb.



GETTING HERE:

Guests hunting at Harold's Pond and Steele Lake will be required to fly into Deer Lake Airport, Newfoundland on Thursday. Guests will be picked up early Friday morning and transported by vehicle to Peter Stride's Pond on the Burgeo Highway (2 hr drive) for a midmorning flight to Harold's Pond.

Guests hunting at Sam's Pond, Bernard's Pond or Camp George will need to fly to Gander Airport, Newfoundland on Saturday. Guests will be picked up early Sunday morning and transported to float-plane base at Thorburn Lake for flight early afternoon on Sunday.

Guests that drive to Newfoundland via the ferry from North Sydney can reach Peter Strides Pond within approximately a two and a half hour drive from Port aux Basques. Driving guests hunting at Sam's Pond will need to drive to Thorburn Lake which will take about six hours from Port aux Basques. A Newfoundland Road Map with marked locations will be sent to driving guests.

Trip Deposits:
A deposit of 50% of the trip cost is required in order to confirm a booking. The deposit is due within 15 days of reserving space on any trip. A late deposit will cancel your reservation. Deposit may be made by check.

Balance:
The balance of your trip cost is due 120 days prior to departure. Trip cancellation insurance is recommended. No refunds once balance has been paid.
